What These Notes Are For

A growing collection of what I am learning, trying, and still working out as a mother.

Last updated August 16, 2026·2 minutes

I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want to give my children—not only what I want them to know, but how I hope they will think, make choices, use technology, and understand themselves.

Some of these ideas come from decisions we have made in our family. Some are things I am trying with my children now. Others are questions I am still working through.

I wanted a place to keep them that did not require every thought to become a polished essay or a pronouncement about how everyone else should parent.

These notes are that place.

What I will write about

I expect to write about the parts of mothering I return to again and again: how children learn to think, how we handle technology, what it means to raise bilingual children, what school rewards, how motivation develops, and how families make choices when there is no perfect answer.

Some notes will be very practical. Some will explain a principle behind something we do at home. I may also share books, tools, or practices that have genuinely helped me.

These are allowed to change

I do not have a final answer to every question here. I would be suspicious if I did.

As my children grow, I expect some of my thinking to change with them. I will update a note when experience, evidence, or a very good argument changes my mind. That is why each page has a “last updated” date rather than pretending it was finished forever on the day I first wrote it.

Mostly, I hope these notes are useful to another parent who is thinking through the same questions. I am not offering a universal system. I am sharing what matters in our family, why I think it matters, and what I am learning as we go.

This is a living note. I may revise it as my experience and thinking change.
